Sanya Malhotra Embraces Small-Town Roles and International Praise at IFFM

Sanya Malhotra recently made headlines at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), where her upcoming film received a standing ovation. The enthusiastic response at the festival marks a significant moment in Malhotra's career, reflecting her growing international acclaim.

Malhotra, who has previously earned acclaim for her roles in films set in small towns, attributes this casting trend to her ability to resonate with audiences from diverse backgrounds. “People from small towns relate to me, even though I come from a metro city like Delhi,” she explains. “I find the culture and colors of small cities fascinating, and I am drawn to stories set in these environments. It’s heartening that filmmakers also see me fitting well into these roles.”

Despite the initial pressures she felt around film releases, Malhotra has learned to embrace these moments with a more relaxed attitude. She reflects on her growth, saying, “I used to get very anxious before releases, but I’ve learned to manage my expectations and remain neutral.” This change in perspective was even noted by her friend, actor Radhikka Madan, during a film premiere.

At 32, Malhotra acknowledges that she has been critical of her work in the past, often withholding celebration of her successes. However, her recent experience with the film Mrs has shifted her outlook. “I used to be too harsh on myself and didn’t celebrate my achievements,” she admits. “But now, I savor every aspect of my films, including interviews and promotions. Watching Mrs, I told my team that I was proud of myself, which is something I hadn’t done before.”

The positive international reception of Mrs has boosted her confidence. “The validation we’re receiving globally is exciting, and I believe people will love it,” Malhotra shares.

As Sanya Malhotra continues to make her mark with her choice of roles and international recognition, she embraces both her past experiences and current successes with renewed enthusiasm and pride.
